Pollution

ree

Imagine you are standing on a nice warm beach looking into the ocean, you spot a plastic bottle bobbing around in the water. Imagine you are standing in a big crowded city and you see a building producing a greenhouse gas, that is coming out of it. Imagine you are at a school and you see someone leave their food scraps and trash on the ground. These are all examples of pollution. Pollution is a very big problem in our world, some people think that it is just a small problem; “oh the world just has a lot of trash on it, trash isn’t harmful”. But no, they are completely wrong. You may think oh it’s just "pollution." No. People can get some serious health problems from both land and air pollution. The world air-quality is bad enough by itself, but what we are doing now is making it worse, we need to make the world better. A marine biologist, Barry Commoner says, “Environmental pollution is an incurable disease. It can only be prevented” (Commoner 2007)

One plant. One life lost. One building. Hundreds of homes gone. One piece of trash. Millions of lives in danger. All of this can happen from one simple thing, a piece of trash that you misplace. One more piece: Might make food hard to find. One more piece: Might make animals go extinct. One more piece: Might make earth shut down. Forever! Have you ever thought about how one tiny plastic bag could end up hundreds of miles away in a whole different country? One plastic bag gets put in your trash can, which gets picked up by the garbage truck, which gets dumped into a landfill. All that trash can take away from growing crops. Because of that, both animals and humans can die from hunger. Lots of animals are said to become extinct in the next few years, those animals include elephants and pandas. Because these animals may go extinct the words food chain would be messed up. Even humans can get impacted because of this. Because all the trash that is taking up space on the land our crops would have nowhere to grow. That's the same for homes, there will be trash and it will be dumped onto more land or moved into the ocean and people will have less homes and some people can die. This is why we have to help stop pollution.
